Due to the 2015-2016 El Niño phenomenon, Madagascar has been affected by the worst drought in 35 years. In response to this, ADRA Madagascar has launched  in September 2017 the SFI or School Feeding Initiative which is a one year project funded by ADRA International, in partnership with Rise Against Hunger. Over the life of the project ADRA will work in 6 communes, targeting 17,701 students in 103 schools. The main activities of the project include distributing high protein meals to students, raising awareness for parents about the importance of education, training and information awareness sessions for the promotion of hygiene.
